Mennonites 2
2012 album recorded at Virginia Mennonite Conference Assembly by Mt Pleasant Mennonite Chorus and guests from across the conference.
- We Are People of God’s Peace – One of the oldest “Mennonite” songs, written by Menno Simons as a communion hymn in 1552.
- How Can I Keep From Singing – Though often cited as a traditional Quaker hymn, it was written by Baptist minister, Robert Wadsworth Lowery, first published in 1868.
- For These Tears I Died – Written by Marsha Stevens at age 16 shortly after becoming a Christian. The writer may be controversial but the message is universal.
- Home – Written by Amos Esh, one of a singing Amish family who was killed along with his mother, father three sisters and five others on March 26, 2010 in a collision on I-65 in Kentucky. An especially poignant song and used by special permission of the family
- Be Thou Mi Vision – An Irish song from the 6th century, part of the Irash monastic tradition and set to the music if the Irish folk song “Slane” in 1927 by Welsh composer David Evans.
- Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace – Based on Isaiah 26:3, composed by Sebastian Wesley, grandson of Charles Wesley and famous in his day as an organist and choirmaster in the Anglican church.
- It Could Happen in a Moment – Joe E. Parks, a prolific but little known song writer composed this call and response song in a tight harmony more typical of the Andrews Sisters and similar groups of their era than in the open harmonies of most southern gospel.
- The Music of Heaven – By Rev. E.A. Hoffman, Presbyterian, author of over 2000 gospel songs including What a Wonderful Saviour, Are You Washed in the Blood and I Must Tell Jesus.
- My Wonderful Lord – Church of Nazarene Rev Haldo Lilleman (1885-1959), minister, evangelist and composer of many songs including one our favorites Wonderful grace of Jesus.
- Holy, Holy, Holy – An old German hymn written by Jahann Neuman and set to music by Franz Shubert in 1826.
- Mennonite Anthem – Praise God from Whom all Blessing Flow, 606, or by whatever name you know it, a Mennonite favorite. The congregation joined the chorus in singing this song on the album.
